SNP Scottish Government provides £4.7 million to support sector
MSP for Stirling, Bruce Crawford, has welcomed news that two performing arts venues in the Stirling Council area will receive emergency funding support from the SNP Government.
A total of 59 venues across Scotland have received their share of £4.7 million, following a call for applications to the SNP Government’s Performing Arts Venues Relief Fund, run through Creative Scotland.
This follows £7.5m previously awarded to 20 venues through the targeted part of the fund.
Local venues the Tolbooth and the Albert Halls were told today that they will receive support totalling £79,913 aimed at removing the threat of insolvency and protecting jobs from redundancy.
Commenting, SNP MSP for Stirling, Bruce Crawford, said:
“Our theatres and performing arts venues here in the Stirling area are an important part of Scotland’s culture.
“The creative industry has been hit hard by this pandemic with theatres effectively having to close their doors overnight.
“These steps were necessary to protect lives, but the SNP Government has acted quickly to help these venues survive.
“The SNP will continue to urge the UK government to use their significant borrowing powers to back our creative industries with further investment, and help secure a bright future for the performing arts sector in Stirling. If the Tories refuse, then these powers should be handed to Holyrood so we can give Scottish jobs, and businesses, the additional support they need.”
