Local representatives have praised local community members for organising the inaugural Duke’s Weekender cycling festival – due to take place in Aberfoyle this September.

The festival is family friendly and aims to being people together to enjoy cycling through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford has submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament, commending the organisers.

He said:

“This is a fantastic idea and it’s taking place in absolutely the right setting.

“The Scottish Government is investing a lot of resource into active travel as we try to encourage more people go get active, keep fit, and look after the environment. This sort of social event is great for promoting the benefits of getting on your bike!”

SNP Councillor for Trossachs and Teith, Evelyn Tweed added:

“Organisers have worked closely with community groups and businesses with the key objective of regenerating the local Aberfoyle economy.

“Events like these will not only bring people together for a great day out, but will also showcase what Aberfoyle and the surrounding area has to offer.

“I can’t wait to see the inaugural Duke’s Weekender take off and hope to see many more events like it in years to come.”
